ODHA pledges support for developmental projects

Ondo State House of Assembly will continue to support every move that will bring succour to the people and fastract more development to the State.

The House Committee on Environment led by its Chairman and the Majority leader of the House, Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi stated this when he led other members to inspect the nearly completed roads and culverts projects at River Jordan in lrele and Ayeka,in Okitipupa Local Governments areas of the State.

He expressed satisfaction with the quality of job done so far by the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project, (NEWMAP) in the State.

Ogunmolasuyi appreciated Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for deeming it fit to ensure the construction in the areas, noting that his interaction with the community leaders in the areas showed that for about 20 years ,the road was not motorable.

According to him, the construction will bring relief and development to the areas, commending NEWMAP and other Stakeholders for a job well done and advised residents to equally maintain the projects to ensure sustainability

As part of the projects, wastes collection tricycles and other equipments were also donated to the benefitting communities for waste management in order to avert drainage blockage with a sum of #500,000 given to the communities as take off grants to maintain the equipments.

The State Project Coordinator of NEWMAP, Adewodun Marcus while Speaking in an interview said that the gully erosion site at Ayeka in Okitipupa Local Government before the intervention used to be a dumpsite characterised with a very deep gully of about twelve meters down, while the road was deserted and no longer a link between Ayeka and Okitipupa community.

He stated that with the support of the State government,led by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu ,the Agency were able to fixed the covert across and also channel the runoff down with a concretized structure and because it was massive,has been protected with wire nets to protect people from falling inside, while the road was asphalted with drains and extended to the front of the palace, which is about six meters.

The coordinator informed that it is the same with the river Jordan in lrele local government which is about one kilometer.

He assured that with the support of the State government, another four new communities have been mapped out for intervention soon. It would be recalled that the NEWMAP recently completed and delivered similar projects in Owo and Akure local governments areas of the State.

At the Palace of the Regent of Ayeka kingdom, Princess Oluyemi Bajowa ,she thanked the State government and the team for the major intervention, which according to her will go a long way to bring development to the area.
