ODHA sets up committee on road carnage

A body has been raised by the Ondo state House of Assembly to liaise with the Federal Ministry of Works to find solution to several carnages along major highways in the state, which have led to several loss of lives and property in the state.
The House also committed a bill for a law to repeal the Ondo state electricity law, cap A8.Volume IT, laws of Nigeria, 2006 make provisions for the Ondo state Electric Power Sector law 2020 to adhoc committee on utility for proper scrutiny after it scaled second reading.
The House resolved that all markets on roads should be relocated to avert avoidable loss of lives and property.
The House made the resolution following a matter of urgent public importance raised on the auto crash in Akungba Akoko by a lawmaker representing Akoko South West constituency II, Mr Felemugudu Bankole.
The lawmakers resolved to give electricity law 2020 accelerated passage based on its importance to the human and economic development of the state.
According to the lawmakers , the bill when passed into law will minimize dependence on Benin Electricity Distribution Company, (BEDC), as it would enable consumers switch to preferred electricity distribution companies.
Report of adhoc committee on petition for legislative oversight into the financial activities of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, OSOPADEC,vis-à-vis developmental projects executed from 2019 till date was also submitted by its Chairman, Rev.Samuel Aderoboye.
The Speaker, while commending the adhoc committee for a job well done ruled that the Chairman of OSOPADEC, Olugbenga Edema has no case to answer as all the record of the commission were clean after thorough investigation.
He affirmed that after thorough investigation and letter of withdrawal written by the petitioners, the adhoc committee strongly recommended that the Chairman, OSOPADEC, Gbenga Edema should be exonerated.
Consequently, a bill for a law to amend the Chiefs Law, CAP 27 Volume 1,laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006 to abolish grades D categorisation of obas in Ondo State was committed to adhoc committee on local government after scaling through second reading.
Also, a bill for a law to provide for the establishment of Ondo state multimedia courthouse and for connected purpose thereto was committed to adhoc committee on judiciary after it has scaled through second reading. According to the lawmakers, the bill will enhance the process of getting justice when passed into law.
