ODHA stresses needs for Ministry to partner agencies

Ondo State House of Assembly has charged the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development to partner more with relevant agencies and bodies towards impacting positively on the lives of the people at the grassroots.
The house committee on Women Affairs and Social Development gave the charge during its familiarisation visit to the ministry in Akure.
The Chairman of the committee and lawmaker representing Ilaje state constituency ll, Mrs Favour Tomomewo averred that social development is key to nation’s growth hence the need for well meaning Nigerians to invest in it.
According to her, the responsibilities of the ministry is germane therefore must be proactive to ensure that women are not subjected to second class citizens.
Tomomewo stressed the need for the ministry to create a formidable platform on the issue of gender equality and girl-child development by creating a permanent unit in the ministry for such ,adding that they should also share workable ideas that will be beneficial to the society with the civil society for overall development.
Other members of the committee advised the ministry to do more in digitalising all the activities of the ministry for people to be well informed.
The lawmakers observed that the responsibilities carried by women are enormous hence the need to always support them, noting that this will have multiple effects on the society.
They harped on the need to continue to give special people in the state support, for them to explore their full potentials.
Earlier, the Commissioner in the ministry, Mrs Titi Adeyemi who reeled out the activities of the ministry to the committee informed that the present government has taken the welfare of special people in the state as a priority.
She said that the responsibilities of the ministry are so sensitive and it deal with issues concerning gender and women, children, the less privileged, people with disabilities and the aged.
According to her, the ministry was created out of necessity for women to be heard, saying that what the ministry is doing bothers on humanitarian services, so as to create enabling environment for societal development.
She craved for the support of the lawmakers for effective service delivery.
