ODHA thumbs up NEWMAP projects in LGs

The  Ondo State House of Assembly has expressed satisfaction with the quality of projects delivered by the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project, (NEWMAP) in Owo and Akure local governments areas of the State.

 It charged the Management not to compromise the standard on the remaining  ongoing projects in the State.

The House Committee on Environment led by its Chairman, Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi stated this  during an oversight visit to the just completed roads and culverts projects at Festus Adetula Street,Owo and Orisunmibare  street,Ijoka Akure.

He advised residents to equally maintain the projects to ensure sustainability , saying that the projects are of standard that will stand the test of time.

As part of the projects, six wastes collection tricycles, wheelbarrows, rakes, rainboots among others were also donated to the benefitting communities for waste management in order to avert drainage blockage with a sum of #500,000 given to the communities as take off grants.

The State Project Coordinator of NEWMAP, Adewodun Marcus while Speaking with newsmen ,affirmed that the projects are the counterpart funds of the State government meant for intervention in erosion areas  to enhance socio-economic development and give relief to the people across the State.

He said they have transverse across the 18 local governments of the State to spot areas that need urgent erosion control intervention and presently four local governments which includes, Ayeka in Okitipupa and river Jordan in lrele have benefited and are near completion.

He said the Owo site is one kilometer asphaltic road surface plus 300 lengths water channel that will contain the runoff of the entire catchment area while that of Akure is about two kilometers with one kilometer water channel which have been completed.

The project coordinator who informed that the projects are all encompassing with road infrastructure, and erosion problems fixed ,addressed the problem of waste management while the water channels are well protected with wire nets to prevent people from falling inside.

He commended the Governor of the State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for the payment of counterpart funds and  support to the  team.”
