ODHA urges religious leaders on unity

Ondo State House of Assembly has enjoined  religious leaders to champion the course of peaceful co- existence in Nigeria to forestall religious conflict.

The Chairman, House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Favour Tomomewo gave the charge when she led members of the committee on familiarisation visit to the state Christian and Muslim Welfare boards.

Mrs Tomomewo who enjoined the chairmen of both board to be ambassadors of peace and always preach the gospel posited that peace is an essential ingredient of development.

To her, “nothing should cause conflict between both religions as we are brothers and sisters, I charge you to do more in ensuring peace in the state and Nigeria at large.

“It is the responsibility of religious leaders to guide against religious conflicts to ensure security of lives and property. Ethnicity and religious conflicts must be tackled headlong”.

While saying that they were in the boards to familiarise themselves  and see how they are faring, she assured them that the 9th assembly will carry out its activities effectively to achieve the set goal.

Tomomewo commended the chairmen for demonstrating the real meaning of religion saying that religion is about attitude and faith.

Earlier, the Chairman, Christian Welfare Board, Very Rev. I.A Agboola explained that the board has been organising pilgrims to the holy land adding that they also visited prisons to present gifts to them and organise series of prayers for the state and the nation.

Also, the Chairman Muslim Welfare Board, Alhaji Khaleel Fawehinmi noted that the present government has laid a solid foundation for inter-religious relations in the state.
