ODHA visits Sports Council, Charges Sunshine Stars on improvement

Ondo State House of Assembly Committee on Youth and Sports Development has admonished the State Sports Council (OSSC) to ensure clean and attractive environment for both athletes and the spectators.
Chairman of the house committee on Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Adewale Williams Adewinle stated this during a familiarisation visit to the Sports council in Akure, the state capital.
The committee who frowned at the unkept environment, dilapidated structure and obsolete equipments at the council urged the General Manager and his management team to carry them along in all their activities.
The Chairman said, “the essence of this visit was to collaborate with the management to move the council forward”.
“If you carry us along in scheme of things, it will be better for you ,because we will have the first hand information of what is happening and it will be easy for us to discuss on the floor of the house.”
The committee, however commended the council’s management for its efforts at doing the state proud in most competitions despite their numerous challenges.
They assured the council management that they will make frantic effort to address the issue of athletes welfare and other challenges facing the council.
Earlier the Sports Council General Manager, Mr Wande Fabuluje while welcoming the committee to the council briefed them of some of the challenges facing the council. Which includes irregular payment of athletes allowances that has turned to their nightmare.
Fabuluje appealed to the House committee to help do something about the dilapidated structure and obsolete equipments in the council.
He later submitted a document containing their challenges and requests to the committee for proper study and action.
Committee on Sports also visit Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA) where its charged Sunshine Stars FC to go all out and do the State proud in the new football season in Nigeria.
The Committee Chairman, Mr. Adewale Williams Adewinle who urged all stakeholders to do more to ensure the success of Sunshine Stars from the new season, also stressed on the importance of investing massively in football and sports generally.
“We want improvement in your next seasons results, Sunshine Stars must be made ready to do the State proud and justify whatever amount is expended on the team. Only that can encourage the Government to do more.
“You know some, even at the EXCO level really cannot see the benefits of spending in sports, but they must understand sports investment is very good in diverse ways: active youth engagement, means of employment, honour and even possible IGR to the state. So we must make it known the need for continuous and improve spending in sports”, Hon. Adewinle posited.
Earlier Otunba Akinyemi and Director, Sunshine Stars, Prince Tunde Ogunja both briefed the Committee of the numerous challenges the Agency has faced in recent time which have militated against Sunshine Stars’ quest for glory, but both assured the committee that there is a very good team in place ready to the State proud in the new season.
Members of the Committee on the familiarisation visit include Mr. Adewale Williams Adewinle, Mr. Festus Adefiranye, Hon Jamiu Maito, Dr Abiodun Faleye, Rt Hon (Rev) Aderoboye Samuel Ademoye, Mr. Mohammed Taofik and Committee Secretary, Mr Adebayo Anola.
