ODIEC issues notice of LG polls

The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) has issued a notice of poll for the conduct of local government elections for chairmanship and councillorship positions.

The notice aligns with Schedule 4 of the Local Government Administration, Conduct of Local Government Elections and Allied Matters Law (Cap 87), Laws of Ondo State.

In the notice, signed by the Secretary to the Commission, Mr. Igbekele Jatuwase, and made public on 30th December 2024, the local government elections are scheduled to hold on Saturday, 18th January 2025, at 8:00 a.m.

The notice specifies that each voter shall cast their vote at their registered polling unit, and only individuals whose names appear on the voters’ register and who possess a valid voter’s card are eligible to vote in the election.

Meanwhile, ODIEC has announced that interested applicants may now apply to serve as ad-hoc staff for the local government elections on Saturday, 18th January 2025.

In the public notice, the electoral body invited applications from qualified and suitable candidates to fill available ad-hoc staff positions required for conducting the elections.

According to the notice, the available positions include: Local Government Returning Officers; Ward Returning Officers; Ward Supervisory Officers; Presiding Officers; Assistant Presiding Officers; Poll Clerks and
Poll Assistants.

The statement further noted that applicants for the positions of Local Government Returning Officers and Ward Returning Officers are to submit their written applications, including their biodata, to the Chairman of ODIEC at the Commission’s Headquarters on Oba-Ile Road, Akure, no later than 6th January 2025.

Applicants for other positions are to channel their applications through the Electoral Officers in their respective local government areas to the ODIEC Chairman.

The commission emphasised that the deadline for the submission of all applications remains 6th January 2025.
