ODIRS directs agents to collect old naira notes

By Adekola Afolabi & Samuel Edu

The Executive Chairman of Ondo State Internal Revenue Service, ODIRS, Tolu Adegbie has directed all agents of ODIRS to collect the old N200, N500, and N1,000 notes for the sales of revenue tickets to Okada riders, taxis drivers and others.

Adegbie said the decision was in line with Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s directive that the old notes remain legal tender in view of the ruling of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

“If they accept the notes and they take it to the bank and the banks do not collect them, they should bring it to us, we will collect from them”, Adegbie stressed.

He reiterated that the governor has given a clear direction that the state revenue agency should collect old notes from the people

“So, we will collect, accept those notes, I just want to tell the rest of the public of Ondo State that if for any purpose of revenue payment, if you have your old notes and you need to pay please bring them we will accept them”, he said.

The ODIRS Chairman also stated that the agency has migrated all payments for road taxes to an online platform.

“Before now, if you want to renew your vehicle particulars, if you want to get plate numbers, register your vehicle fresh, you have to go to the bank to pay. Now, you don’t need to go to the bank to pay, you can go to the Quickteller application or come to any of our offices and we guide you on how to pay. You can actually pay from your houses”, the chairman added.

“For drivers license renewal all you need to do is to go to www.odirs.ng and from there you will see renew drivers license, and the website will take you to where you can renew. You fill in all your information and you will pay and once you pay, your driver’s license will come and once it is ready we will inform you to come and collect it. So, everything now has been migrated to online.

“For any further information please come to any of our offices and you will be guided properly, you don’t need to go to bank any more for these two transactions””, he stressed.
