Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS) has said that it will begin the enforcement of the Land Use Charge any moment from now.

The Chairman of the agency, Mr Tolu Adegbie made this known in an interview with The Hope.

Adegbie said the agency is just taking it’s time before commencing enforcement to give the people more time.

He said that the Land Use Charge law  stipulates that once a seal of notice is placed on a  building after a period of 30days without payment,  such an apartment would be sealed.

His words: “Taxation does not require heavy handedness. We are going to do enforcement definitely and by the time we do enforcement everybody will know that we have tried . The law is there, we are just waiting for the time to apply it”,

Explaining the fines and penalties for defaulting Adegbie said: “. If they serve you a notice and if you remove the tag, they pasted on your house, the penalty is N100,000, if you assault a staff of ODIRS and we have evidence,  the penalty is one month in jail”.

Also, “If you do not touch them ( officials) and you do not remove your tag but failed to pay. We will wait for 30 days after which we put some intention to seal and then we go ahead and seal”, he declared.

Adegbie, who said it is the discrection of the agency to know when to come and seal, stressed that if the sealing is cut off or removed, the penalty is N250,000.
