ODIRS sensitises house owners on HOCOS’ gains

By Saheed Ibrahim

In order to ensure every home owner in Ondo state enjoys the full benefits of  Home Owner’s Charter of Ondo State (HOCOS),  scheme to secure Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) at a very affordable price, the Ondo State Internal Revenue Service, ODIRS last weekend staged a road show across the three senatorial districts.

HOCOS is a scheme initiated by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to support every home owner in Ondo State to have proper and genuine title documents of their property for as low as N150,000 as against the usual N600,000 to N1 million to get the document.

With public address systems attached to vehicles, banners, posters and branded T-shirts, the ODIRS staff went round communities, streets, markets, offices, recreation centres and other places to sensitise the residents of the state.

While briefing newsmen,, the ODIRS Chairman, Mr Tolu Adegbie said it was important to embark on such awareness programme for people in both urban and rural areas to enjoy the scheme

“There is no point having a program like this that is designed to benefit the people of Ondo state and the people are not aware. We have pasted banners, posters everywhere but we are embarking on this road show by going everywhere within Akure.

“We are visiting about eight local governments, including Akure South, Akure North, Oka Akoko, Akungba, Ikare, Ondo, Ile-oluji, Okitipupa, Owo. We are visiting at least two in every Senatorial District of the state to make people aware. People may miss banners, posters, television and radio adverts but they will not miss the road show and the noise we are making.”

Adegbie added that the scheme was a way of providing support for home owners in the state to get C of O for their homes with ease and at very affordable amount of money.

According to the ODIRS boss, “The scheme was designed in such a way that a property owner will pay just N150,000 as against the normal N600,000 to N1,000,000. With the HOCOS scheme, property owner will pay N150, 000 for a bungalow on one or two plots of lands”.

He added that additional benefit in the scheme include free building plan approval, which he said cost about N100,000, legal ownership of property, huge increase in property value, ease of using property as collateral for loan, less dispute over ownership and inclusion of residential area for facility provision, among others.

He stated that the scheme would last for three months, charging home owners to take advantage of the initiative before the discount window closes, adding that “After the three months, everything will go back to normal where they will be charged normal price of N600,000 to N1,000,000 .
