President Muhammadu  Buhari has been commended for recognising and renaming of  the National Stadium in Abuja  after the winner of the annulled June 12 Presidential election, Late Moshood Kashimawo Abiola.

The president on June 12 this year renamed the former National Stadium to MKO Abiola Stadium .

Chairman Ondo State Football Agency, Otunba Tajudeen Akinyemi gave the commendation during an interview with The Sporting Hope at his Ijapo residence in Akure .

He described the President’s action as enormous, saying despite the fact that coups were planned against him through Babangida he never paid evil back with evil.

While expressing his happiness on the development ,he frowned at the present condition of the stadium which is unpalatable to behold.

He said the Stadium has turned to crusade centers for all sorts of revival and vigil, adding that the Stadium is not the same football arena that hosted the 2009 FIFA under- 17 world cup .

The ODSFA boss urged the ministry of sports and youth to put the Stadium in good shape for both local and international competition.

He added further that “the presidency as well should do follow up, because after the pronunciation there will be little brushes, little clean up after a while the place will go back to its inglorious state again.

The Sunshine President added that Nigerians lack maintenance culture that is why the national sporting arena is in shambles, adding that authority in charge should use this opportunity to bring back the glory of the stadium.

He posited by saying “what I would have expected from the president to name after Abiola was the National Assembly chamber .

However may be because of Abiola’s love and support  for Sport and being a owner of a  football team in Nigeria league then, probably these are the yardstick considered before naming the national stadium after him I don’t know.

All the same kudos must be given to the president, what he did is not only for the Southwest but for the entire nation, it showed  the acceptability of Abiola all over the country”, he posited .
