Ondo govt begins construction of 4.72km Ugbo-Nla/Aiyetoro road

By Kayode Afolabi, Okitipupa

The Ondo State Government has commenced preparations for the construction of the 4.72km third phase of the Igbokoda/Ugbo-Nla/Aiyetoro Road project.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Ondo State on Strategic Communication, Allen Sowore, disclosed this in a statement made available Weekend Hope.

According to the statement, Sowore noted that the vision to construct roads linking the riverine areas of the oil-rich local government was first conceived by the late sage and former governor, Chief Adebayo Adefarati, in 2000.

The statement partly reads, “Subsequently, Dr Olusegun Agagu awarded the contract for the construction of the road from Igbokoda to Ugbo-Nla, linking many previously inaccessible communities to Igbokoda, the headquarters of Ilaje Local Government. Successive administrations have also contributed to the progress of the project.

“The third phase is a crucial road that will connect Ugbo-Nla to Aiyetoro and other major seaside communities.

“To this end, the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has awarded the contract for the feasibility study, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Soil Test, and Geophysics Survey to reputable consultants. One of the contractors, EMINAD NIG LTD, has already mobilised to the site.

“The soil test will provide essential data about the terrain to ensure an appropriate design for the topography. It will also determine the required length of the bridge needed to cross the river between Ugbo-Nla and Erunona.”

During an inspection tour of the ongoing project, the Secretary of OSOPADEC, Princess Abike Bayo-Ilawole, emphasised that the feasibility study, EIA, and soil test are critical to ensuring the project’s quality, durability, and long-term success.

She further reaffirmed the governor’s commitment to extending road infrastructure into the state’s hinterland.

“Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is dedicated to bringing this project to completion. He wants our people to see tangible progress, not just plans on paper,” she said.

Upon completion, the project will open up the riverine communities of Ondo State, unlocking significant social, economic, and tourism opportunities.
