ODSG begins dualization of Oda road
In continuation of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu commitment to make Ondo State roads complied with world approved standards, the ever busy Oda road has been slated for dualization
Speaking on this development, the commissioner for Works and infrastructure Mr. Saka Yusuf Ogunleye said the government was deeply worried about the deplorable state of the road and the hardship being experienced by commuters plying the road and residents of the area
The commissioner was speaking at the palace of Olojoda of Oda, where he briefed the Regent, Oba Abike Akosile on the need for the residents to cooperate with government and the contractor to ensure timely completion of the project
According to him, there were hundreds of requests from people who wanted government to attend to their roads, but the Governor has in his magnanimity approved dualization of Oda road among others. that are receiving attention in the state
According to statement from Press Officer of the ministry,Ayo Falana, the commissioner said the process of demolishing shanties and other illegal structures has began with marking of the structures for demolition by the state ministry of physical planning and urban development
Ogunleye who said the chunks of Ondo State Civil servants reside in the area called for sacrifice from all who have shops, kiosks , containers on the road sides to remove them to allow the Contractors commence work.
The Commissioner said the government of Arakurin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu would not play politics with the life of the people noting that the Governor is a promise keeper and would not abandon any road project under construction
Responding the Regent, Oba Abike Akosile thanked the Governor for his intervention on some critically failed roads in the state among which Oda road is one
Oba Akosile said the incessant traffic congestion being experienced on the
road was as result of rapid expansion of the town as well as other communities in the axis like Ijigba, Aaye, Ilekun etc which are also expanding daily.
The Regent said the town had for long made provision for dualization because there were enough setbacks from the major road to the residential buildings
She promised the cooperation of the residents of the town with the Contractors while the project lasted noting that Oda community would remain grateful to Governor Akeredolu for the good gesture.
Also speaking a community leader in the area Mr Oluwole Ige said Oda town was a source of
Internally Generated Revenue to the state since the establishment of Cocoa Board by the late sage Chief Obafeni Awolowo in 1954.
He therefore thanked Governor Akeredolu for his plan to decongest the the only road leading to the town from Akure through dualization
