The need for stakeholders to sensitise residents on the importance of presenting their girl-child for the Human Pappiloma Virus (HPV) vaccine has been stressed.

The HPV vaccination would likely commence in Ondo State on May, 27, 2024 and runs through seven days.

The vaccine as gathered is more effective when given before a girl is sexually active and targets girls between the ages of nine and 14 years.

Director, Disease Control and Immunisation, Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency (OSPHCDA), Dr. Victor Adefesoye spoke during the state technical working group on the introduction of the vaccine in Akure on Thursday.

According to him, the group has put in place measures to ensure that the exercise records huge success, adding that members should ensure that residents are fully informed before the introduction of the vaccine.

Speaking on security, he said that the agency will engage other stakeholders to tackle the issue of security, calling on all to give it the needed support.

He called on them to disabuse the minds of residents against the rumour of reduction in fertility.

While expressing appreciation to stakeholders for their support for the agency’s activities, he stressed the need for them not to relent in rendering support for the success of the vaccine implementation.

Adefesoye however, called on health workers to change their attitude towards health screening activities in order to live healthy.
