ODSG commends NAOSS on ‘clean city’ exercise

The Senior Special Assistant to Ondo State Governor on Youth and Students Affairs, Mr Banji Adewumi has commended the National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOSS), for taking it upon themselves to clean Akure City, thereby passing the message of a clean state.
Adewumi lauded the association during the clean city train exercise held at the Akure central market during the week which marked the biggest student-led action in Ondo State history.
Adewumi, who commended the leadership of NAOSS and other executive members said the exercise was a total departure from what people used to known about students as being violent. But seeing them channeling their intellectual capacity to a productive area is commendable.
In his address, the global president of all Ondo State Students, Kikiowo Ayoade, said “as student leaders, we believe strongly that it is not only about what the government can do, but what we as patriotic citizens and a critical stakeholder in Ondo State can also do to push our state forward and also contribute positively to the movement of the state”.
According to him, no fewer than 700 students participated in the clean up of the whole city, to complement the effort of the government and to show citizens that students can also do more to push this state and country forward and also emphasise that everything is not about agitation or demanding.
The Hope gathered that the volunteering students from different higher institutions and secondary schools first visited the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi for awareness of the exercise and then moved on to sweep and clean the city, starting from Erekesan market down to Olukayode shopping complex.
President of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, Sikiru Sakirat Opeyemi, said “we are here to clean our city which is Akure and we are here to impact everyone seeing us that we are to clean our environment to make everywhere tidy and more colourful”.
Member representing Ilaje Constituency 1, Abayomi, Akinruntan said the exercise was like the beginning of a new era and the initiative is best of its kind.
He further said the students are willing to do beyond what is expected of them and it’s very commendable to see this kind of programme in Ondo State for the very first time.
