Ondo State Deputy Governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has reiterated the government’s commitment to the training and retraining of workers to improve their productivity.

Aiyedatiwa stated this on Tuesday in Akure when the leadership of the Nigeria Institute of Town Planners paid him a courtesy visit.

“The present Ondo Government does not toy with the imperative of training and retraining its workforce so that their skills and productivity will improve.

“The need to be updating and upgrading skills by professionals and workers generally is very important.

“Efficiency and effectiveness to deliver the mandates of workers and professional career paths calls for regular training and retraining for better productivity output.

“This administration prioritises training and restraining of its workers,” he said.

The Ondo State Government, Aiyedatiwa said, would fast track enactment of the state’s urban and regional planning laws in line with national standards.

The deputy governor said that it was necessary for the institute to educate its members on the new laws, innovations and the workings of urban and regional laws of a state.

“Urban and regional planning laws are always evolving as the world is evolving too.

“Educating urban and regional planners is therefore important for them to be able to deliver better services.

“I assure you that this administration will speed up the enactment and implementation of a modern urban and regional planning law in line with national standards,” he said.

Earlier in his remarks, the President, Nigeria Institute of Town Planners, Mr Olutoyin Ayinde, said the state government scored high in promoting a peaceful atmosphere with purposeful urban planning frameworks.

Ayinde said that the members of the institute were in Ondo State for a training programme.

“We don’t underrate the importance of training hence our presence here to study the urban and regional planning improvement needs of the state.

“Our members are here to sharpen their skills and build more cutting edge productivity and technological mind-set,” he said.

Ayinde also urged the Ondo State Government to speedily domesticate both international and national urban and regional planning codes, saying “Ondo State’s rapid development requires our collaborative efforts”.
