In order to help farmers bring their farm produce from the farm to the market, Ondo state government has distributed a total of 180 tricycles to all the local government areas across the state.
Two local governments , Ilaje and Ese Odo were also presented with boats to facilitate fish production
The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Forestry, Mr. Olayato Aribo made this known in a chat with The Hope shortly after the distribution on Monday in Akure.
He said: “We have given each local government 10 tricycles and they are supposed to distribute it to the various communities where they have farm commodities.”
” It is not given to individuals. They are supposed to insure it, take care of it and charge some stipends for its maintenance.”
He also disclosed that Agro Chemical inputs were also distributed through the agricultural commodities association to share it among farmers in their associations.
“We identified the agricultural commodities association and we gave the inputs to them to share it to the farmers in their associations,” he stated.
Aribo tasked beneficiaries to ensure that the tricycles and inputs get to the real farmers because not all of them were present.
“The tricycles should not end up at Arakale for sale because the tricycles are free of charge.
“If they get it, it will help them to increase their productivity and also reduce cost of food items,” Aribo further explained.
