ODSG distributes solar pumps to farmers

As part of activities to mark the 2022 World Food Day Celebration, Ondo State Government yesterday distributed 20 solar-powered water pumps and eight lamps to selected farmers to promote Climate Smart Agricultural practices.
The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Forestry, Mr Olayato Aribo declared this in a statement made available to The Hope
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Mr Edward Ogunmola,
Mr Aribo said the day is celebrated annually to tackle global hunger, where people around the world come together to champion courses of eradicating hunger worldwide.
The theme of this year’s celebration,” Be a food hero and leave no one behind” is aimed at alleviating hunger and promoting food security. The day was set aside by United Nations to create awareness on the need for food security.
Aribo observed that the state is yet to be sufficient in food production even when more people are showing interest in agriculture which necessitated the celebration of the world food day.
He expressed that the low food production could be improved upon if people embark on massive food production, as he called on government at all levels to show more passion for agricultural development.
The equipment were made available by Rural Electicfication Agency (REA)/ FADAMA in partnership with the Ondo State Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to enhance food sufficiency while facing climate change.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr Edward Ogunmola, who was represented by the Director of Finance and Administration, Mr Tope Lebile said World Food Day is celebrated yearly to promote the global awareness and action for those who suffer from hunger
Ogunmola noted that many people around the world were still in need of healthy diets, but there are challenges facing mankind making hunger persist among which he mentioned COVID-19, Climate change, and conflicts among others.
