The Basic Health Centre, Yaba Odopetu, Ward 7, Akure, has received equipment from a non governmental organization known as Concerned Minds for Good Health Initiatives from the United States of America to boost health care delivery in Ondo State.
Delivering the materials to the Permanent Secretary, Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Francis Akanbiemu, the Chief Executive Director of the group, Mr Olumide Omoranmilowo described health care facilities as the major concern of the organization.
He explained that the group aim at improving health facilities due to what his own father who according to him was a diabetic patient went through due to poor infrastructural development in health facilities before his death.
He however added that his organization is planning towards extending the gesture to other health facilities in the state.
While receiving the equipment, Dr Francis Akanbiemu said the gesture is laudable.
Akanbiemu who was represented by the Director Medical Services, Dr Paulinus Omode said before 2018, Odopetu Ward 7 was the only ward in Akure South LGA without a primary health facility, but the State Government through the leadership of the Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency, took the bull by the horn to ensure that a BHC was established in the Community.
This process started with community involvement and donation of an uncompleted building which was taken over, renovated, equipped and staffed by the Agency in 2019 to cater for the people of Odopetu community and the entire ward 7.
He said the equipment would help to improve the quality of health service delivery at the facility will guarantee availability of alternative power supply anytime there was BEDC power outage. It will ease the stress faced by the health personnels in their daily routine activities especially when taking delivery and attending to other emergencies at night.
The Permanent Secretary called on other organisations to complement government efforts at bringing quality health care delivery to the grassroot.
Speaking on behalf of the staff, the Officer in Charge (OIC), Mrs Oluyemisi Osore, said the donation was timely having been cut off from the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) few weeks ago.
She thanked the donor for the support and promised that the materials would be judiciously utilised.
The materials donated include: remote-controlled Generator, rechargeable standing fan, glocometer, digital thermometers and other commodities.
