The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Special Duties and Chairman of the Governor’s Task Force, Dr. Doyin Odebowale has said government will soon introduce new strategy to ensure the border posts are well secured.
Odebowale who lamented negligence on the part of the security agents manning the border posts, said that government has concluded plans to put a stop to the porosity of the borders and improve compliance.
The Governor’s aide who spoke on a radio programme monitored by our correspondent also decried the rate at which the people are resisting enforcement of the Governor’s directive on precautionary measures against COVID-19.
He disclosed that some commercial drivers are still moving passengers from Akure to other states despite the directive by the state government that the border should be closed for inter-state traveling.
“What they do is that they will take passengers from here, drop them at the boundary with Osun state and the passengers will pass through the bush and burst out at Owena where another vehicle will be ready to transport them to Osun or Ibadan through Osun state.”
Odebowale said the state government is not interested in imposing fine on anyone found breaching protocol but rather make them face the full wrath of the law.
He said the government decided to impose curfew on the state because of the hotels, open barbecues and beer parlors that open businesses at night for the people.
He urged the people to join hands with the government by following every directive so as to rid the state of COVID-19 on time.
