ODSG partners MITOSATH on NTDs

In order to ensure effective structuring of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) in the State, Ondo State Government has synergised with developing partner, Mission to Save the Helpless (MITOSATH).

Speaking with the partner and the zonal Coordinator of NTDs from the Federal Ministry of Health, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Banji Awolowo Ajaka, said the meeting was necessary in order to aid proper accountability, communication, accessibility to data and coordination of the programme in the state.

He reiterated that the Ministry of Health is the only Ministry saddled with the responsibility of coordinating all health related partners, donors and sponsor agencies working in the state, noting that implementation could be at the various health related agencies.

He maintained that any health related sponsor coming to the state must go through the Ministry of Health for proper supervision and coordination as directed by the Federal Ministry of Health for the sustainability of the programmes

“It is proper to have these programmes in the Ministry of Health because when the partners are not willing to continue to sponsor and they leave, the state can take it over and sustain it.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Pharm (Mrs) Folukemi Aladenola emphasized that the restructuring of NTDs in Ondo State was for strengthening the system, for proper accountability and management of Data and commodities.

She noted that any other health related  programmes working in the state that were yet to be domiciled  in the ministry should do so immediately for proper coordination as approved by the Head of Service and the Federal Ministry of Health.

While responding, the Executive Director, MITOSATH, Dr ( Mrs) Francisca Olamiju  said  that the organisation has the mission to work with the communities, government to improve  the quality of life of the people in the state, adding that they have continued to distribute Abendazole and metizan to people  and also carryout surgeries for people suffering from NTDS.

She urged the Ministry to supervise the transitioning of the Old and the new NTDs committees while also promising to work with the new team and follow the laid down rules of engagement in compliance with the state health policy.
