In order to improve the welfare of Corps Members posted to Ondo State , the state government has said it was partnering the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to embark on skills acquisition programmes for the youth.
Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu said this during the swearing-in ceremony for the 2019 Batch ‘A’ corps members, deployed to the state, at the Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare Akoko.
Akeredolu, represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye, said that it was not only the NYSC that the government was collaborating with, but also all other relevant bodies and agencies to make the state great.
The governor, who also inspected the renovation of the permanent orientation camp, said that security of lives and property of corps members was one of his priorities for the construction of the perimeter fence.
“We are committed, as partners in progress, to improve corps members economically by collaborating with the NYSC
“It will not stop at the NYSC level alone but in all sectors. We will do our best as a responsible government,” Akeredolu said.
Earlier, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Grace Akpabio, said that various platforms were available for corps members to help prepare themselves for the challenges of the service year and post-service life.
Akpabio advised the corps members to see their deployment to the state as a divine arrangement; thereby making themselves useful to the scheme, the state and the country at large.
She noted that 1,964 corps members, consisting of 1,067 males and 897 females from various states of the federation were registered at the camp.
