Ondo State Government is exploring innovative solutions to tackling the challenges of urbanization by establishing neighborhood markets in major towns and cities.
The proposed market locations include; Leo Junction, Arakale Road, El-shadai Road, and Mobil/Fiwasaye Road, among others.
This initiative is aimed at alleviating the struggles of traders and customers, boost economic growth, and enhance community development.
According to the State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr Gbenga Olaniyi, the proposed markets will not only revitalize urban renewal but also address the challenges associated with urbanization.
During a visit to potential market locations in Akure, Olaniyi emphasized that the markets will significantly reduce traffic congestion, prevent accidents, and minimize casualties among traders and the public.
The Commissioner, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Mr Bunmi Alade, and the Monitoring and Enforcement team, also inspected ongoing building construction projects in the state capital.
Stop-work and contravention notices were served to builders who failed to comply with approved building plans.
Olaniyi urged the public to obtain necessary documents, including land use clearance and building permits, from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development before commencing construction projects to avoid demolition by the state government.
