ODSG recruits 400 revenue officers

Ondo State Governor has recruited 400 revenue officers to boost her internally generated revenue drive with the ultimate aim of delivering more dividends of good governance to the people.

The government is targeting to recruit 900 revenue officers but has given approval for the recruitment of the 400 workers.

At a two-week induction training for the newly recruited workers in Akure yesterday, Akeredolu charged them to work assiduously to improve the revenue growth of the state.

The governor, who described revenue as the most important aspect of governance, as without money nothing can be done, also said the new officers have no excuse not to perform.

He specifically enjoined them to work very hard and closely with the chairman of the State Board of Internal Revenue to increase the internally generated revenue of the state to enable government deliver more dividends of good governance to the people.

While commending the Chairman of the Board, Mr. Tolu Adegbie, for working for the state without collecting salary, Akeredolu advised the new officers to block all leakages and justify the confidence reposed in them.

The governor further said there had been appreciable growth in the revenue base of the state since inception of his administration.

According to him, before his administration, the internal revenue of the state was at 20th position, but now ninth in the country.

“With your assistance, the growth should be more. We want to see an increase in revenue of local governments because there are so many leakages and it is for you to block them,” he said.

The Head of Service of the state, Toyin Akinkuotu, lauded the governor for giving approval for their recruitment even in the face of the prevailing economic situation in the country.

He congratulated the new employees and charged them to work effectively to improve the revenue of the state.

Earlier, the Chairman, Ondo State Board of Internal Revenue, Tolu Adegbie expressed gratitude to Akeredolu for the recruitment exercise, which he said, had boosted the strength of the personnel for effective coverage of the State.

He further urged the recruits, who would be deployed to the 18 local governments, to give their best as they were brought in to reinvigorate the service.

The chairman, who described the recruitment as a single largest employment exercise in the state civil service in the past 10 years, also lauded the governor for the ongoing modern office complex to ensure conducive environment for better services.

Responding on behalf of the new employees, Miss Idowu Akinya, appreciated the governor for the opportunity given to them with a promise to do their job effectively well to meet the expected goal of the state government.

Present at the occasion were the Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi; Secretary to the State Government, Ifedayo Abegunde;  Head of Service, Mr Toyin Akinkuotu, State Commissioner for Agriculture, Otunba Gboyega Adefarati and his counterpart at the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Saka Yusuf Ogunleye.
