Stakeholders in the health sector of Ondo State have been charged to work towards the domestication of the Revised 2019 National Health Promotion Policy (NHPP) to improve the quality of health care delivery in the state.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Pharmacist (Mrs.) Folukemi Aladenola gave the charge in her keynote address at a three-day Domestication Process Development Meeting for the National Health Promotion Policy (NHPP) in Akure.

She noted that in view of its importance to qualitative health care delivery, it has become imperative to domesticate the NNPP, which was launched on November 20, 2020 and subsequent development of a National Strategic Plan for health promotion.

She affirmed that available evidence has indicated that health promotion is an effective tool for galvanizing individual and collective health actions aimed at preventing diseases, improving the health and wellbeing of the populace as well as ensuring a healthier society for all individuals.

“The National Health Policy of 2016 recognized that Nigeria is saddled with unbearable burden of communicable and non- communicable diseases.

“This is coupled with issues such as low levels of health literacy, poor sanitation and inadequate attention to key social determinants.

“Hence, the National Health Promotion Policy of 2019 clearly identified the need for a health promotion focused knowledge management system to serve as a one stop knowledge hub within the health sector “, Aladenola stressed.

Also speaking, Monitoring and Evaluation Lead for Health Promotion, Federal Ministry of Health, Mr. Jepther Lere advocated collaborative efforts of all stakeholders towards advancing health promotion in Ondo State.
