ODSG tasks town planners on professionalism

Ondo State government has charged town planners in the state to always show high sense of professionalism and integrity while carrying out their activities as a professional body.

 The Chief of Staff to the governor, Chief Olugbenga Ale gave the charge on behalf of government at the World Town Planning Day 2019, organised by the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, Ondo State Chapter.

 He revealed that Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu led administration in the state  recognised the importance of effective town planning in socio-economic development, saying that any society that neglects the critical roles of town planners would have a serious challenge.

 The theme of this year’s celebration is, “Equity and Diversity, Environment and Climate Change, Sustainable and Healthy Environment, Economic Development.”

 Ale explained that government was already taking decisions on some flood prone areas across the state to ensure free flow of water and address issue of flooding.

 He solicited the support and cooperation of the town planners to implement government’s decision on town planning.

 The Chief of Staff congratulated the town planners on the occasion and challenged them to resist the temptation that may affect their good judgement on proper town planning.

 “We want to let you know that for you to succeed in this job, you must always do your work with a lot of integrity because you will always be faced with challenges when you are doing your job.

 “Any urban society that is not well planned definitely will be facing  challenges we are having today in the society such as flood and other environmental ills,” Ale stressed.

 He charged them to always bring their expertise into bear to ensure a better planned environment for the people to live in.

 Earlier, the Chairman, Nigeria Institute of Town Planners, Ondo State chapter, Professor Omole Kayode, noted that it is very important to key into what is going on globally to positively change our society.

 According to him, the essence of the event was to create awareness and sensitise the relevant stakeholders on the importance of good town planning in Ondo state and Nigeria at large.

 Prof. Kayode said the focus of this year’s celebration is on Green City, noting that most of the environment challenges being faced in the society today were self-inflicted, hence the people must ensure positive attitudinal change so that people can live longer on the planet earth.
