The Chairman, Ondo State COVID-19 Palliatives Committee, Mr. Akin Olotu, has said appropriate laboratory tests would be conducted on the food items donated by the Federal Government as palliatives to ensure they are safe for human consumption.
Olotu stated this shortly after the State Government received three trailers load of rice and 700 kegs of vegetable oil as COVID-19 palliatives allocated to the state by the Federal Government.
He also hinted that the second tranche of the palliatives distribution would commence as soon as more food items come in.
Receiving the food items at the Government House in Akure, the state Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for the food support, saying the items would boost the state government’s efforts at cushioning the effect of the global pandemic.
It would be recalled that the Federal Government had recently directed the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Social Developments to distribute food items such as rice and vegetable oil seized by the Nigerian Custom Service for distribution to vulnerable Nigerians across the country.
Ondo state received its own consignment of three trailers loaded with 1,800 bags of 50kg rice and 700 of 30kg vegetable oil.
Governor Akeredolu lauded President Buhari for initiating different measures to cushion the effects of COVID-19 pandemic on the people.
He said the state government would also not shy away from its responsibility of identifying with the people at this trying times.
The governor later handed over the food items to the COVID-19 Palliatives Committee with a charge to ensure its equitable distribution.
The Coordinator for YESSO office in Ondo state, Bankole Olaoluwa commended Governor Akeredolu for providing leadership which facilitated the release of the food items from the Federal Government.
