By Adekola Afolabi

Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, yesterday said his administration was ready to partner the Federal University of Technology (FUTA), Akure in the area of training of state secondary school teachers.

Akeredolu who explained that continuing education is very key to his administration, added that government would continue to do its best to encourage it to improve standard of education in the state.

The Governor disclosed this while playing host to the Principal Officers of FUTA, led by the new Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji in his office, Alagbaka Akure.

Akeredolu congratulated her on her appointment as first female VC of the university, saying he has no doubt in his mind that she will improve the institution.

“A number of our teachers need what I will call continuing education, and you can help us in that area, particularly our science teachers. They can be with you for two weeks particularly during the holidays and even when the schools are in place.

“A few of them have forgotten what they learnt. So, continuing education will be very important to us. We have a policy that you don’t earn promotion until you have added degree or additional qualification.

“We also have our own Institute (PSTI) in Lara-Mokin, and there can be collaboration”, the Governor said.

Akeredolu added the state Tech Hub at the university which is supposed to be an incubating center has continued to train several people in diverse areas.

He also appreciated the VC for supporting BEMORE, an initiative of the First Lady, Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu.

On FUTA South and North access road, the Governor Akeredolu promised to see what can be done about the affected roads to prevent carnage

The VC had sought the Governor’s assistance in the area of security and economic development in the institution.

She also described the FUTA alumni in Governor’s cabinet including the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Olugbenga Ale, as worthy alumni doing the institution proud.

Some members of the State Executive Council led by the Secretary to the Government, Princess Oladunni Odu, were also in attendance.
