Ondo State Government has declared that it will continue to support and partner with the Town Planners in the State to ensure that the extant law on planning of buildings is strictly adhered to.
Speaking while playing host to the newly elected executive officers of the State Town Planners in his office in Akure, the State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development ,Alhaji Rasheed Badmus stated that the State Government, through the Ministry, would from time to time involve and consult Town Planners in the state to give expertise advice on any building approvals as a way of protecting lives and property.
The Commissioner maintained that the state government is committed to ensuring proper building and planning of environment so as to make life comfortable for all and sundry in the state.
The Commissioner informed that the government has been training its Town Planning officers to gain more knowledge and enhanced their performance in their profession, stressing that they have gone for trainings and seminars outside the country.
In the release made available to The Hope by the Media Manager of the Ministry, Mrs Adebimpe Amos ,the Commissioner equally noted that the UN Habitat has been partnering with the Ministry in order to give the state a beautiful and serene environment.
Earlier in his remarks, the outgoing Chairman of the Institute, Mr Felix Omole appreciated the state government through the Ministry for supporting and assisting the Institute during his tenure.
He commended Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for always releasing funds for members in the Ministry to travel outside the country for capacity buildings which he affirmed has enhanced their effectivenes.
Corroborating this, the representative of Town Planners Registration Council of Nigeria, ( TOPREC), Mr Jacob Ibikunle sought for a more robust relationship between the new executives and the state government to achieve the set goals.
