ODSG to procure 20 tractors –Adefarati

Ondo State Government has declared its intention to procure 20 tractors before the end of next month.
The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Asiwaju Adegboyega Adefarati stated this at the free distribution of hybrid cocoa seedlings to farmers in Owo Local Government area of the state, yesterday.
He said that the tractors will ease farmers’ challenges and attract more people especially youths to agriculture.
He affirmed that the money for the procurement is on ground, but that the state is only waiting for the due process to acquire them.
The Commissioner disclosed that the state is also planning to buy 1,000 metric tonnes of fertilizers to sell to farmers at highly subsidized rate which he said will be delivered soon to meet the farming season.
Adefarati stressed the importance of roads leading to farm locations across the state declaring that the state government has awarded 60kilometeres of roads in Owo and that Jugbere farm road would be the first to be graded.
Earlier, the Onimeri of Imeri Kingdom, Oba Babatunde Adeniran 1 (JP) appreciated the state Governor’s good gesture saying without farming, there will be starvation.
Oba Adeniran urged farmers to ensure that they raise the seedlings well to meet the purpose for its distribution while charging them to reciprocate the good gesture of the Governor when they are required to do so.
The Chairman of Owo branch of Sunshine Cocoa Farmers Association, Engr. Michael Ojo appreciated the state government for bringing project to Owo and urged government to ensure that majority of the Owo indigenes benefit from Jugbere farm project.
A beneficiary, Mrs Gladys Akinola called on women to participate in agriculture.
Mrs Akinola urged government and other stakeholders to encourage women to embrace agriculture while stressing the need to create selling points for agricultural inputs and chemicals to ensure easy accessibility to farmers.
