Ondo state government has assured that it would resuscitate the agroclimatology department of the state Ministry of Agriculture to forecast weather condition of the state.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Mr Sunday Akintomide stated this in a chat with The Hope in Akure.
He said the department could not function effectively due to lack of equipment.
Akintomide, who was a Project Manager in the department before he was appointed Permanent Secretary, assured that the Ministry will facilitate the purchase of necessary equipment needed, saying the department will be resuscitated to carry out its statutory function.
“Ministry is propelled by professionals and we have discovered their limitations and we will ensure that they continue to survive to meet up their expectations.”
Akintomide assured that the agroclimatology department will start monitoring and enlightening farmers about the weather report which would be disseminated through both the electronic and the print media as from this year.
The move, according to him, would assist farmers on the appropriate time to plant so as to ensure food sufficiency.
He said the state will continue to stand by the farmers, noting that it recognises a one big agricultural family comprising of other agency and organisations like the Agricultural Development Project (ADP), OSAC, AISA and many others.
