The Special Task Force of Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has declared an immediate total clampdown on unscrupulous petrol stations hoarding the Premium Motor Spirit popularly called petrol, thereby causing excruciating pains on the citizens.
The leader of the Task Force and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties and Strategy, Dr. Doyin Odebowale, disclosed this on Thursday while addressing journalists on the development.
Recall that Governor Akeredolu on Wednesday directed the Task Force to move around the State and deal decisively with any fuel station found hoarding the product.
Odebowale equally declared total war on owners of petrol stations who adjusted their pumps to shortchange people, describing the development as satanic and criminal act which must not be allowed to continue.
The SSA decried a situation where a petrol consumer will buy 10 litres of fuel and eventually meet less than 8-litres.
He also wondered why petrol marketers are selling above the approved pump price even when government has subsidized the product till end of June.
Petrol marketers are now selling between N500 and N520 per litre in Akure with fake pumps.
The leader of the Task Force explained that government will continue to protect the rights of the citizens and will not allow owners of petrol stations to extort innocent citizens and inflict pains on them through their fraudulent activities.
He noted that the Task Force will immediately carry out the Governor’s directive and shutdown any fuel station extorting its customers, adding that consumers must have value for their money.
Odebowale who said Nigerians should not blame President Tinubu for the subsidy removal, also explained that the fuel subsidy had already been removed by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
He, however, challenged the EFCC to probe what he called fraudulent activities of the NNPC Limited with a view to unraveling the true situation of things.
