The Ondo State Government has expressed its readiness to adopt a digital security apparatus to tackle insecurity in farmlands to boost food production and ensure its sustainability.

The Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture and Food Security, Rotimi Wemimo Akinola, made this known at a meeting held with Global Olabod Resources Limited, farmers and traditional rulers in the forest reserve areas in Akure over the weekend.

Akinola, represented by Clem’ Wole Folayan, while presenting an address at the meeting, said the security apparatus would complement physical security efforts, in collaboration with other security operatives in the state.

He mentioned that a special security team comprising the local vigilante, the Civil Defence Corps, and the Amotekun Corps has been set up for farmers’ easy accessibility and urgent intervention where needed.

He emphasized the government’s desire for feedback and called for a symbiotic relationship between farmers and government officials to eradicate insecurity caused by Fulani herdsmen and kidnappers.

Mr Olaniran Kikiowo, presenting government’s policies and initiatives relating to Agriculture and Forestry Management, stated that the meeting was necessary because Ondo, along with Kogi and Kwara, has been rated by the Bureau of Statistics as the state with the highest rate of food price inflation.

According to him, the Governor established Global Olabod Resources to tackle insecurity to reduce the high cost of food and ensure food sufficiency for the masses.
