ODSG trains education managers

To reposition education for better service delivery, Ondo state Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, has organised a one -day training for education managers in the state.
The training with the theme ” Repositioning Education through Quality Assurance Practice” was held at St. Peter’s Unity Secondary School, Akure.
In his address, the Commissioner, Mr Femi Agagu said quality assurance is pivotal to the actualization of curriculum delivery in schools’ hence the reason the present administration merged the Quality Education Assurance Agency with the Inspectorate Department of the state Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.
He said, in this regard, it made the ministry to embark on training and re-training of the education managers to add value and sustain the quality of resources input process and output in schools.
“This will no doubt restore public confidence in education delivery in Ondo State,” he stated.
Agagu added that the purpose of the training was to suggest more pro- active and result oriented measure that will further strengthen the operational capacity of education managers for sustainable improvement on their job performance to achieve better outcomes.
He also assured the participants that the Ministry will give attention to the implementation of the resolutions they arrived at to enhance effective learning outcomes for quality education service deli very in the state.
In his opening address, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Rev Akin Asaniyan said education is regarded as the mainstay of the economy of any state or nation, hence the massive investment by the present government.
” This workshop is aimed at sharing knowledge and skills on the important endowment and characteristics of a robust Education Quality Assurance System” he stated.
Asaniyan who said since all stakeholders have accepted that education in Nigeria is besieged with plethora of problems, posited that the only solution to address the malaise is through a systematic approach that is founded on virile inspection of the schools.
According to him “there is need for holistic reform in the sector in tandem with global practices which several nations have adopted as the only reliable tool in making quality and functional education available to its citizenry”.
In an interview, the Special Assistant to the Ondo State governor on Education, Mrs Olawunmi Ilawole, said the training is apt and something that is going to be a continuous one, adding that the present government led by Oluwarotimi Akeredolu will focus and be interested more on the quality of education, learners outcome, curriculum, the qualities of teachers, textbooks and the kind of environment where they are being taught.
She said these are not prone to public schools alone but also private ones, adding that whatever happens to public schools will also be applicable to the private.
“The government is going to be interested in knowing that the curriculums in privates schools are in tandem with public schools and also globally”.
A participant, Mrs Oluyemisi Lebi said the training will enable the participants learn more about their job and how to go about it.
