ODSG, UNICEF collaboration yielding results – Ojogo

Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Donald Ojogo, has described the collaboration between Ondo State Government and UNICEF as fruitful, robust and has resulted in improving the living standard of people of the State.
The Commissioner stated this, while declaring open the 2020 C4D sharing and proposal writing workshop held in Akure, the Ondo State capital yesterday.
Ojogo noted that the collaboration between the State and UNICEF has achieved significant impact on the healthcare of the people, especially children and mothers; adding that sensitisation of the public through wall paintings on hygiene and sanitation has been carried out by the State Ministry of Information and Orientation, with the support from UNICEF.
He stated further that the airing of the Facts For Life radio programme which was designed to educate the general public on hygienic living and essential household practices needed to be imbibed by every household and community in order to prevent communicable diseases and infant mortality.
According to a statement signed by Press Officer of the Ministry, Sola Omoboyowa, the State Spokesman reiterated the efforts the Oluwarotimi Akeredolu-led administration has put in place towards combating the coronavirus which is ravaging the world including Nigeria.
Ojogo stressed that efforts must be intensified by relevant stakeholders in the sensitisation and enlightenment of the people about the dreaded virus, which he said, according to health experts, is deadlier than Lassa fever; kills faster and easily spreads.
The Information Commissioner hinted that the administration in Ondo State under Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has left no stone unturned in the war against coronavirus and other dreaded diseases that are inimical to the health of the people.
He added that the case of Lassa fever in the State is now a thing of the past, saying government has successfully battled it, so it can tackle the COVID-19 virus, as the the state government has a purpose-built and well equipped Infectious disease centre in Akure, to combat any infectious diseases.
He, therefore urged the people of the state to maintain hygienic environment and health enhancing practices such as constant hand washing with soap under running water system, promising that the ministry of Information and Orientation would continue to sensitize and educate the people with a view to preventing outbreak of diseases and curtailing the spread through various means of information dissemination.
In his remarks, the Akure Field Chief office of UNICEF, Dr. Tushar Rane, who was represented by Mrs Caroline Akosile appreciated the Ondo State government for collaborating with UNICEF in making life better for the people of the state.
The UNICEF Chief urged participants to come up with laudable proposals that would have positive impacts on women and children.
Participants were drawn from Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti and Edo states.
