ODSUBEB, UBEC empower 5,000 teachers in Ondo

Training designed to equip teachers with modern skills

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), in partnership with the Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board (ODSUBEB), has commenced the training of over 5,000 teachers and headteachers from public primary schools across the state.

In a press release issued by the ODSUBEB Director of Information and Public Relations, Prince Bolu Ajijo, ANIPR, the annual training is part of a deliberate effort under the UBEC/ODSUBEB action plan to continuously improve the capacity of teachers and headteachers in public schools by exposing them to the latest developments in the education sector.

According to him, the training, which is part of the 2023/2024 Teachers’ Professional Development Programme, includes the training of 2,000 teachers under the School-Based Model, currently ongoing in 40 centres across the three senatorial districts, to improve teachers’ skills and enhance learners’ performance.

A further breakdown of participants indicates that no fewer than 315 headteachers are undergoing leadership training in three centres in each of the three senatorial districts of the state.

Additionally, 940 teaching staff are receiving specialised training in Strengthening Mathematics and Science Education in Schools (SMASE). As the name implies, SMASE is designed to enhance teachers’ capacity to teach Mathematics and Science at the primary school level.

Another set of 315 teachers is undergoing intensive capacity-building training in English proficiency, while not less than 1,250 teachers are benefitting from the Jolly Phonics training programme, which promotes learners’ reading and pronunciation skills.

Speaking on the essence of the annual Teachers’ Training Programme, the Director of Teachers’ Professional Development in ODSUBEB, Mrs. Monilari, stated that the initiative aims to enhance teachers’ proficiency in delivering teaching modules and ensuring effective learning outcomes.
