Market leaders in Ondo State have been called upon to put in place sanitation committee in order to maintain healthy environment.
The committee is expected to be on ground for proper cleaning during market sanitation.
General Manager, Ondo State Waste Management Authority, Mr. Fola Omowole made the call in Akure on during a stakeholders’ meeting with market leaders of Akure metropolis.
According to him, the existence of the committee will facilitate proper sensitisation of traders on cleanliness, noting that markets generate large volume of waste on daily basis.
He explained that market sanitation takes place every Thursday across the state between the hour of 7am and 9am, calling for active participation in the the exercise.
While expressing appreciation to market leaders for their support for government, he noted that it is important that they give their full cooperation to ensure that the operation of the authority isn’t hindered.
Omowole who called for proper waste disposal, stressed the need for all to play their roles well in ensuring a healthy environment.
He advised residents to desist from taking waste to the road sides, adding that and should always keep drainages and should not block it with waste.
However, he assured of putting waste collectors on their toes to achieve a cleaner state.
Secretary, Erekesan Market, Mrs Balogun pointed out that other residents mostly dump their waste along the main road in market areas.
President, Provision line, Alhaja Sekinat Oyeneyin while speaking, stressed the need for prompt evacuation of waste in markets by waste evacuators.
