The alumni body made the pledge at the 72nd annual inter-house sport competition of the school, held on Wednesday in line with the regulations of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN),

The Global President of the association, Dr. Niyi Ijogun, reiterated the commitment of the school’s alumni to ensuring its global recognition and continued development.
Dr. Ijogun emphasised the need for the school’s name to resonate worldwide.
“I am here to represent over 42,000 old students of Oyemekun Grammar School. Our goal is to promote a well-rounded education and excellence in sports, including track events, kickoff games, indoor and outdoor games, football, and more. We aim to lead in all aspects,” he stated.

He commended the old students for their unity and unprecedented support for the school, particularly in infrastructural development over the past three years.
“Our benchmark is not just the former Western Region but well-known schools in Nigeria, the UK, Australia, South Africa, and beyond. Oyemekun Grammar School has produced distinguished individuals, including Federal Ministers, Ambassadors, Commissioners, Senior Military Officers, and top officials in the Nigerian Armed Forces and Police Force.
“I am proud that Oyemekun alumni belong to a prestigious group of people shaping and guiding Nigeria. However, we must reawaken interest in indoor games and strive for excellence not only on the track but in all areas,” he added.
In his welcome address, Mr. Adeniyi Oluyide, the 17th substantive Principal of the school and an alumnus, expressed his delight for being part of the year’s event.
He reaffirmed the school’s commitment to developing sports alongside academic excellence, ensuring that extracurricular activities are not neglected.
Olayide also called on government representatives and the Oyemekun Old Students Association to support the school through financial donations and the provision of sporting materials and equipment.
Adeniyi encouraged students to be disciplined, obedient, and abide by the rules of the competition while striving to make their respective houses proud.
“There should be no fights or enmity after the competition. In the end, every house today is a winner,” he advised.
In the end, Blue House emerged the overall winner of the competition while White House came second.
