Reps member slams Malami over attacks on APC, Amotekun

By Sade Adewale

A member of the House of Representatives representing Ilaje/Ese-Odo in Ondo State, Hon. Donald Ojogo, has criticised former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, following Malami’s condemnation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for backing President Bola Tinubu’s second-term ambition amid national challenges.

Malami, speaking at a National Political Consultative Group (North) meeting in Abuja—attended by political figures like former Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, his counterpart in Labour Party, Peter Obi, and ex-minister, Rotimi Amaechi—accused the APC of prioritising 2027 politics over urgent issues such as insecurity and economic hardship.

In a strongly worded statement, Ojogo dismissed Malami’s comments as both insincere and ironic. “I’m not speaking for the Presidency or the APC,” he said, “but Malami’s remarks can’t go unchallenged. It’s hypocritical for someone with his track record to now pose as a moral compass.”

Ojogo referenced Malami’s controversial role during the Buhari administration, especially his opposition to the Amotekun Corps—a regional security initiative launched by South-West governors to tackle insecurity. “When our region faced grave security threats, Malami did all he could to sabotage Amotekun,” he said.

Ojogo, who was a former commissioner in Ondo State, accused Malami of undermining efforts to protect Southern communities and blocking progress on critical security reforms such as state policing.

“At a time when leadership and courage were needed, Malami chose to stand in the way,” Ojogo added.

In conclusion, Ojogo described Malami’s recent comments as an effort to revise his political legacy.

“This is nothing more than an attempt to sanitise a deeply questionable record,” he stated.
