Okada: Osun suspends daily ticket payment

As part of efforts to ensure peace and tranquility among the citizenry, the Osun state government has suspended the disputed daily ticket for commercial motorcyclists indefinitely.

The state governor, Gboyega Oyetola gave the order through the Secretary to the Board of Osun Internal Revenue, Mrs. Oluwatosin Falomo in Osogbo .

Putting the record straight on the matter, Falomo said, there was an initial agreement between the state government and Okada Riders’ Associations on the consolidated fee of N100 payable to the State Government as road tax on every commercial motorcycle in the state.

She further said that another N100 is payable to the association’s coffers as against the misinformation perpetuated by some elements that the sum of N200 was charged and to be collected by the government.

She said that the step was taken not on the premise of extortion, but rather to improve the economy of the state with its aftermath effect on the betterment of all and sundry.

In the light of this new development, she said, “all commercial motocycle Riders in the state are enjoined to allow peace to reign by continuing with their daily activities devoid of rancour.”

It will be recalled that the commercial motorcyclists  earlier inthe week  protested against the new ticket fee by blocking some major roads in the state capital.
