A commercial motorcyclist, Leye Adebayo, has been arraigned before an Ile-Ife Magistrate Court over alleged attempt to rape his female passenger.
The 35-year-old accused person allegedly committed the offence on June 28 around 5.30p.m at Mosarajo Village, near Ile-Ife in Osun State.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Abdullahi Emmanuel, told the court that the motorcyclist conducted himself in a manner that might likely cause a great breakdown of law and order by attempting to rape his 35-year-old woman passenger.
The offence, according to the prosecution, contravened Section 249(d) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
Adebayo, who is facing a one-count charge, pleaded not guilty to the offence levelled against him, while his lawyer, Mr Okoh Michael, applied for his bail in most liberal term.
He promised that he would not jump bail, but produce substantial sureties.
Magistrate Abiona Adebayo, therefore, admitted the accused person to N500,000 bail with one surety in like sum.
Adebayo added that the surety must swear to affidavit of means, and resides within the court jurisdiction, and adjourned till July 16 for hearing.
