Residents of Ikare Akoko have commended the Ondo State Government on the ongoing construction work at the Oke Alabojuto hill in the town saying this will put an end to the countless deaths on the spot resulting from incessant accidents caused by its high altitude.

They described the action of the State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to bring down the hill as a blessing to the people of Ikare Akoko, its environs, motorists and commuters alike.

Equally, they gave kudos to the governor for not abandoning the project and other ones initiated by the immediate past government in the state.

A trader at the popular Oja Oba Market in Ikare, Mrs Toyin Kayode while commending the efforts of the government said this has gone a long way in relieving the people of their worries over accidents in the town.

“Anytime we come to this place to sell, we used to worry about our safety. It is only after we return to our homes at the end of the day that we know the cup has passed over us”, she said.

“We thank God the hill has been brought down by the governor. We will appreciate if they can finish it on time”.

Mrs Bola Lawal, another trader at the market described the lowering of the hill which she described as dangerous as a great relief to the traders who are the ones that are the most affected by its bad nature since they stay mostly in the market transacting business.

Mrs Lawal said most traders are afraid to come for business while those who come usually think twice before doing so for the fear of being caught in the event of an accident occurring.

She stated that if the project is completed, it will put an end to accidents on the road.

A resident, Mr Suleiman Lukman who commended the governor for the lowering of the hill said Ikare as a town will no longer witness deaths due to accidents resulting from the high nature of the Oke Alabojuto hill.

Suleiman said the action of the governor should be commended by all the people of Ikare irrespective of their political affiliation and should not be politicised.

Similarly another resident, Mr Adewale Agbogun thanked the government for embarking on the project which he described as life- saving.

Adewale stated that the present administration has gone one step ahead of previous administrations in the state in showing commitment to the welfare of the people.

He however urged the government to always consult the people in order to know their immediate needs in the area of infrastructures.

Meanwhile the people of Ikare have called on government to expedite action on the Oke Alabojuto project and the dualisation of the town’s major road.

According to those who spoke with our correspondent, the early completion of the dualisation project will boost the economic status of the town.
