Okitipupa Council moves to recover encroached govt properties

By Kayode Olabanji, Okitipupa

In a renewed effort to safeguard public assets and ensure their proper utilisation, the Okitipupa Local Government has commenced a comprehensive inspection of government-owned properties across key locations, including GRA Oke Oyinbo and Ayeka.

Leading the exercise, council chairman, Andrew Ogunsakin expressed concern over cases of encroachment and illegal occupation of public properties, vowing to reclaim such assets and put them to effective use for community development.

He noted that the inspection aimed to assess the state of the properties, identify necessary renovations, and strengthen documentation to prevent further misuse.

“As a government, we must ensure that public resources are not mismanaged or abandoned. This exercise will enable us to take appropriate steps in recovering and optimising these assets,” Ogunsakin said.

He further emphasised the council’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and responsible management of government resources, adding that any mismanaged, encroached, or illegally occupied properties would be reclaimed and repurposed for public benefit.

Accompanying him on the tour were Vice Chairman, Ogunyemi Orimisan, Secretary to the local government, Femi Oladokun, Chief of Staff, Saka Kadri, Head of local government administration, Prince Adeyemi Ojomo, Director of Finance and Supplies Pastor Ogunribido Solomon, and Director of General Services and Administration, Comrade Aiku Aaron, alongside other key officials and stakeholders.

The initiative aligns with the ongoing reforms of the current administration, aimed at improving governance efficiency, advancing infrastructural development, and ensuring that government investments continue to serve the people of Okitipupa Local Government.

Ogunsakin called on community members and stakeholders to support efforts to safeguard public assets, warning that any cases of illegal occupation or encroachment would be addressed in accordance with the law.
