Okitipupa residents lament power surging, damage to appliances

Residents of Okitipupa in the Okitipupa local government area of Ondo State have expressed deep concerns over high electricity voltage supplied by the newly commissioned power grid substation, which has resulted in the destruction of household appliances.
Reports indicated that some areas in the community have been forced into total blackout as residents attempt to prevent further damaged to electrical appliances, including bulbs, televisions, refrigerators, and other household devices.
A representative of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) in Okitipupa, who spoke anonymously via phone, confirmed receiving multiple complaints from distressed residents.
The official assured the public that immediate steps would be taken to address the issue and prevent further occurrences.
It will be recall that the 132kV Transmission Line and 132kV/33kV Substation in Okitipupa, Erinje, Ondo State, were constructed by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and officially commissioned on May 22, 2024, by Engr. Abubakar Momoh.
The event was attended by traditional rulers, community leaders, and key government officials, including the Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
Residents have called on the relevant authorities to urgently stabilise the power supply and provide relief to those whose properties have been damaged.
