Olowo makes case for varsities’ funding

As the global community, Owo indigenes home and abroad felicitate with the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye on his appointment as the Chancellor of Federal University of Technology, Babura, Jigawa State, the monarch has called for substantial funding for Federal universities.
Oba Ogunoye made the passionate appeal shortly after his installation as the Pioneer Chancellor of the University at a colourful ceremony in Babura, Jigawa State.
At the event attended by big wigs across the country, he said the allocation of more funds for the universities will encourage them to drive national development.
The Olowo said by bolstering financial support for the academic community, the universities will thrive as centres of excellence, producing skilled graduates and groundbreaking research that will propel the country forward in the global knowledge economy.
He lauded the Federal Government for its visionary step in introducing the Student Loan Scheme.
The monarch disclosed that the land mark initiative will guarantee sustainable higher and functional skills development for Nigerians, especially the youths.
Earlier, President Bola Tinubu had congratulated Oba Ogunoye on his choice as Chancellor. He urged the Pioneer Chancellor to exploit his towering intellect and innovative administrative skills to guide the new institution.
President Tinubu expressed confidence in the immeasurable benefits the new Chancellor would bring to bear on his call to national unity.
