…urges investment in technical, vocational education

The Convener of the Ògo Àkúré Mandate Group, Hon. Ayodeji DF Oluleye, has applauded the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for his visionary leadership that led to the successful conduct of the long-awaited Combined Convocation Ceremony of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO), after more than a decade.

Oluleye, a public health professional and development advocate, described the event as a “restoration of hope” and a reaffirmation of the governor’s commitment to rebuilding Ondo State’s educational system through purposeful governance.

He congratulated the thousands of graduating students who finally received their academic honours, noting that the convocation marks a major milestone not only for the institution but also for the state’s technical and vocational education ecosystem.

“The convocation at RUGIPO is more than a ceremony; it symbolises progress, stability, and the government’s renewed attention to education as a pillar of sustainable development. Technical and vocational education remains the backbone of human capital development and industrial advancement. It must continue to receive strong policy and budgetary support,” Oluleye stated.

The Ògo Àkúré Mandate Group also urged the Ondo State government to build on the achievement by prioritising skills-based education, modernising polytechnic facilities, and fostering stronger partnerships between educational institutions, industries, and investors to enhance employment opportunities for youths.

Oluleye further emphasised the need for deliberate investment in innovation, entrepreneurship, and applied research as critical means of driving local productivity and tackling youth unemployment in the state.

“As we celebrate this historic convocation, I appeal to our government and stakeholders to make technical education a major pathway to empowerment. A state that equips its youths with practical skills builds a stronger, self-reliant future,” he added.

The statement concluded with warm congratulations to all RUGIPO graduands and the institution’s management for their perseverance, academic excellence, and contributions to Ondo State’s educational advancement.
