The Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government area of Ondo State, Hon. Andrew Ogunsakin, has ordered the indefinite suspension of all scavenging and scrap metal operations across the council.
This followed the tragic death of Prince OgoOluwa Sogo, the grandson of the late popular music icon ,Comfort Omoge during a confrontation with a scavenger over an undisclosed matter in Okitipupa.
In a statement made available to our correspondent, Ogunsakin noted that the decisive measure aims to address growing security concerns posed by unregulated scavenging activities, often linked to itinerant individuals.
According to him, “These activities, if left unchecked, endanger public safety and critical infrastructure.”
In addition, he has directed the immediate profiling of all scavengers and scrap metal operators within the council, in collaboration with security agencies and community leaders, to restore order and ensure accountability.
Security operatives have been mandated to strictly enforce this order, with violators facing the full weight of the law.
Residents are urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative as the administration takes firm steps to safeguard lives and property.
