The Ondo State Police Command has said it has commenced an investigation into the tragic death of Prince OgoOluwa Omoge, the grandson of the late popular music icon, Comfort Omoge.
The Hope Metro earlier reported that the deceased was fatally attacked during a confrontation with a scavenger over an undisclosed matter, which occurred on Friday along the Ayeka/Igbokoda Expressway in Okitipupa, Okitipupa Local Government Area.
The spokesperson for the command, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the arrest on Monday, stating that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Akure for further investigation.
“I can confirm to you that the suspect is in our custody at the SCID in Akure for further investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of OgoOluwa Omoge,” Ayanlade said. “The suspect will definitely face the law, and justice will prevail in the case.”
The incident has left residents of Okitipupa in shock and mourning, with many expressing disbelief over the senseless act.
In response, the Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government area, Mr. Andrew Ogunsakin, said he has initiated dialogue with community stakeholders, including traditional rulers, youths, and representatives of the Hausa/Fulani community, to maintain peace and prevent further unrest.
Ogunsakin also commended the prompt action taken by the police and reiterated his administration’s dedication to ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
“The swift response by the police is commendable. We are committed to working closely with all communities to foster peaceful coexistence and protect lives and property,” he said.
The police have urged the public to remain calm as investigations continue.
