Ondo 2024: NNPP, ADP, AAC fix primaries

Ahead of the November 16 governorship election in Ondo State, political parties have said that all arrangements have been concluded to produce credible candidates that will emerge winner in the forthcoming.

The parties expressed their readiness to provide a level playing ground for primary elections where their flag bearers will be elected among many aspirants that purchased their nomination and expression of interest forms .

The political parties, which include: African Action Congress (AAC), Action Democratic Party (ADP) and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) will hold their primaries on April 27, April 25 and April 26 respectively as disclosed by the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola in a meeting held with representatives of the  parties.

In separate interviews with The Hope, the AAC, ADP and NNPP said their nomination and expression of interest forms are being sold at the rate of N2m, N12.5m and N11m respectively.

The state Chairman of the NNPP, Pastor Peter Olagookun, said the sale of the party’s form will commence today (Monday).

According to him, the indirect mode of primary was adopted by the party to pick a governorship candidate among the party gubernatorial aspirants.

He explained that on April 13 the party will hold its ward delegate congresses where three delegates across each of the 203 wards in the state will be picked and elect one of the aspirants of the party as its governorship  candidate to slug it out with other  candidates.

Olagookun who noted that the governorship race is between the APC and the NNPP while the PDP follows disclosed that Prof lbrahim Ajagunla is the only aspirant that has officially shown interest to participate in the party’s governorship primary as more aspirants are expected.

On his part, the State Chairman of the AAC, Mr. Olugbenga Arinkoluwa pointed out that the names of the four governorship aspirants of the party have been sent to the State Security Service for more findings on their antecedents .

Arinkoluwa who did not want their names on print said development is being embarked on to produce a candidate of good character and not the one that will be paraded to spoil the good image of the party.

Contrary to April 27 earlier disclosed for the party primary by the INEC in the state, Arinkoluwa said it has been rescheduled to hold next month due to the uncompleted findings by the SSS on the aspirants, adding that the new date for the primary will be decided during the executive meeting that will hold today (Monday).

He said that the indirect mode of primary was adopted to pick the party governorship candidate.

“The N2m form will be purchased by the aspirants. There is consideration for female aspirant to pay administrative fee of N250,000 while the fee for people with disabilities is free.

 Also, the State Chairman of ADP, Mr. Femi Oladejo, disclosed that the only aspirant who had purchased the party form, Mr. Ayodeji Akinnodi is from the Central Senatorial District of the state.

“The sale of form will cost each aspirant N12.5m . For female aspirant , it depends how much such person can afford.” he declared.

The party, he pointed out will adopt one of the three modes of primaries contained in the party’s constitution to pick its candidate depending on the number of aspirant that will be participating in primary poll.
