Ondo ACSPN celebrates World Communications Day, hails role of journalists in state devt

As the world marks the 59th edition of World Communications Day, the Ondo State chapter of the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN) has joined the global community to commemorate the day by recognising the vital role communication plays in shaping society and transforming the world into a global village.
In a statement issued and signed by the association’s State Coordinator, Sunday Kolawole; Secretary, Richard Ilesanmi; and Publicity Secretary, Tosin Ajuwon, ACSPN emphasised the importance of celebrating the essence of World Communications Day by appreciating the crucial roles effective communication plays in bridging the gap between society and government, thereby fostering progress, peace, stability, and development in Ondo State.
Highlighting this year’s global theme, “Share, with Gentleness, The Hope that is in Your Heart,” the association acknowledged the tireless efforts of communicators around the world—particularly those in Ondo State—for their commitment to imparting knowledge and reshaping narratives for positive growth.
According to the statement, this impact has enabled media professionals and journalists in the state to remain dedicated—working both day and night to inform, educate, and inspire society. Through compelling storytelling, these journalists have connected the people with the world, responded to societal needs, addressed challenges, and driven meaningful development.
“At ACSPN, we salute the courage of these media workers, as we all celebrate World Communications Day, for their hard work, passion, resilience, steadfastness, and courage to tell the truth in the face of adversity. We also demand better work conditions for those in the services of either privately owned or public media organisations,” the statement reads.
The association further stressed the responsibility of journalists to disseminate stories that promote development, peace, and love. As trusted voices for the public, they were urged to uphold the highest standards of accuracy and integrity.
“We, therefore, appeal that journalists must guard against fake news, eschew all forms of misinformation, and deliberate spread of falsehood that will make us lose our integrity.
“We must avoid compromise in the midst of temptations but rather hold on tenaciously to the virtue of standing by the truth. We must continually preach selflessness and peace among ourselves while considering that communication is the backbone of our interconnected society,” ACSPN stated.
Additionally, the association called on the government to embrace its responsibility to communicate effectively with the people, especially in light of prevailing security challenges.
According to the association, transparent and responsive communication from leadership is key to solving societal problems and advancing peace and understanding.
“With this year’s celebration, it is also important to remind the government of its responsibility by communicating effectively its programmes and activities to the people of the state, especially focusing on how to solve people’s problems in the face of security challenges. We encourage leaders in power who will harness the potentials of communication to promote peace, understanding, and development,” the association stated.
Concluding the message, ACSPN offered prayers for strength and divine guidance, encouraging all communication professionals to remain vessels of truth and peace.
“We pray that God strengthens us and imbues within us the vigour to always be willing vessels of his Spirit. Happy World Communications Day.” the statement noted
